Washington Metropolitan Accordion Society Update - February 7, 2021
Hello WMAS members and friends!
Our Zoom meetings are starting to feel like the norm! January 24th was a nice mix of music, chatting, and joking around, and we also voted by acclamation to accept the current officers for another year, namely President Peter DiGiovanni, Vice President Robert Ford, and Secretary/Treasurer Mara Cherkasky.
Next Meeting
Our February meeting, on the 21st, will be a celebration of our 18th birthday -- and our finally reaching adulthood! Unfortunately, cake will not be provided, and we won’t be blowing out any candles, at least not together. However, you can provide your own cake, and we’ll make sure someone plays “Happy Birthday.” Dress code: No birthday suits, please.
This will be another Zoom open mic starting at 4 pm, with doors opening at 3:30 pm. As usual, please let us know if you’ll be joining us, and if you’d like to play for us (for 5 minutes).

Washington Metropolitan Accordion Society Update - October 4, 2021
Dear WMAS members and friends!
We had a good Oktoberfest play-along at our last meeting, on September 26. Thanks to everyone who came to play or just to listen. And many thanks to Hilde Spitz for bringing sheet music to share -- it was enough to keep us going for an hour and a half!
The October meeting will take place in person again at Sleepy Hollow United Methodist Church on Sunday, October 24, at 4pm. Besides our usual play-along, we will do a first, “get acquainted” run-through of the Holiday Orchestra music. We hope orchestra members will attend the meeting -- and please be sure to bring your accordions and the music for your part! This will not be a rehearsal per se but a chance to try the music in a group for the first time.
HOLIDAY ORCHESTRA UPDATE
As of this writing, we have 17 players in the Holiday Orchestra! We will be performing a couple of selections from past concerts, along with five brand-new arrangements. If you want to participate but have not yet told Peter, there is still time. Call him at 703-919-5701, or email him at [email protected]. He has uploaded the music for this year’s Holiday Orchestra concert and will soon be emailing participants with further instructions for downloading it, practicing with the MP3s, playing the parts, rehearsing, etc.
Meanwhile, if you have not already done so, please mark your calendar for the rehearsal dates: November 7 at 4 pm, November 14 at 4 pm(during the monthly meeting), and December 5 at 2 pm, and before the concert on December 12 at 2 pm. These are all Sundays.
See you soon!
